Jamie became involved with ReTRAIN through the Employability Skills Training program. Participants are placed in various departments to satisfy a work requirement for government assistance. ReTRAIN’s Employability Skills Training program teaches the “soft skills” needed to obtain and secure employment. Jamie is a single mother of a preschool-age daughter and was pregnant with her son when she began her placement at ReTRAIN. She quickly completed her required number of hours in ReTRAIN’s administrative offices where she learned new skills, such as data entry, filing, and accounts payable systems. She improved her typing abilities as well as her proficiency using Microsoft Office applications. ReTRAIN is continuing to assist Jamie with writing resumes, providing references to potential employers, and identifying training and employment opportunities. With the encouragement of ReTRAIN’s Reach Up Coordinator, Jamie recently applied to the phlebotomy program offered by Fletcher Allen Healthcare and Vermont Hi-Tech.
